Graphic Designer/Web Developer

The Daily American is seeking a talented, self-motivated, professional graphic designer/web developer to design, develop and support web applications. This position requires excellent design skills, web development experience, commitment to deliverables, quality and ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment. The ideal individual will have familiarity with developing cross platform compatible websites integrated with various content management systems.

The on-site position offers 40+ hours a week (contract to full time). If you are a talented graphic designer with experience in web development, we want to talk to you.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES NOT LIMITED TO:
- Collaborate with team members and other groups to write functional requirements, design documents, test plans
- Prepare work estimates as requested, and deliver on schedule
- Perform detailed systems analysis and design, develop, test, deploy and maintain company / customer web sites
- Acquire knowledge of required technologies as needed to ensure timely delivery of customer requirements
- Keep updated with emerging technologies

NECESSARY SKILLS:
- Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
- Knowledge of Typography
- Exceptional Design Skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members
- Web development and designing websites for Cross Browser Compatibility
- HTML 4/5, DHTML, CSS 2/3, JavaScript
- Ability to troubleshoot one's work
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Dreamweaver
- Content Management technologies such as Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla
- Knowledge of and experience programming in PHP 4 and 5
- Experience with MySQL databases
- SEO
- Social Media Marketing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- An associate's degree or equivalent experience
- One to three years of hands-on web development and graphic designing experience

- Candidates with certifications will be given additional consideration
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. Must be able to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (One hour lunch break)

We are looking for a candidate who understands the interactive world from a content perspective and is creative in engaging the audience through journalism, entertainment and classified channels. The successful candidate will understand strategically the audience side of the business, be able to challenge the newsroom, and know vendors and tools in the non-journalism world that will help us engage our audience and increase utility.
