We are asking every candidate running for a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate, as well as every elected member who is not standing for re-election this year, to affirm their commitment to these basic democratic principles:
- Pennsylvania citizens have the right of meaningful access to government records and proceedings.
- Providing this access is part of the fundamental duty of public officials and employees.
- Without meaningful access to government records and proceedings, Pennsylvania citizens are deprived of their ability to be fully informed about the conduct and activities of government, which is critical to their participation and to the continued strength of our democracy.
